So, apparently, I’m a “free spirit.” Sounds poetic, right? Like I should be wandering through fields of wildflowers. I should have a crown of daisies on my head, spreading peace and love wherever I go. But let’s be real—we all know that’s just a polite way of saying I’m out of control. And honestly? I’m fine with that, because who wants to live a life that comes with an instruction manual?

Here’s the thing: Being called a free spirit is like getting a backhanded compliment. It’s right up there with someone saying, “You’re so brave to wear that outfit.” What they really mean is, “Wow, I’d never have the guts to leave the house looking like that.” But instead of feeling insulted, I choose to embrace it. Being a free spirit means I’m not tied down by society’s silly little expectations. I don’t need a five-year plan or know what day it is. I’m too busy living in the moment to care about that nonsense.

People love to throw around words like “spontaneous” or “unpredictable” when describing me. This is just code for “We have no idea what you’re going to do next, and it terrifies us.” But why should I apologize for keeping things interesting? Last time I checked life’s too short to play by the rules. This is especially true when the rules are boring. They are probably written by people who think “fun” is a four-letter word.

Of course, some might argue that being a free spirit is just an excuse for having zero impulse control. To which I say, isn’t impulse control overrated? Sure, I might decide to take a last-minute road trip with no destination in mind. I might also spontaneously quit my job to pursue a career as a professional dreamer. But guess what? Those are the stories you’ll be telling at dinner parties while everyone else is complaining about their 9-to-5 grind.

And let’s talk about this whole “out of control” label for a minute. People say it like it’s a bad thing, as if control is the ultimate goal in life. But have you ever met someone who’s obsessed with control? They’re the ones who color-code their sock drawers and panic when their routine gets thrown off by five minutes. That sounds like a nightmare to me. I’d rather be the person who can roll with the punches. I thrive in chaos. I can turn a disaster into an adventure.

So, call me a free spirit all you want. I’ll wear that label with pride, because it means I’m living life on my own terms. I’m not out of control—I’m just not interested in controlling every little detail. I prefer to leave room for the unexpected, the spontaneous, the downright ridiculous. After all, the best stories come from the moments you didn’t plan for. The most memorable experiences happen when you let go of the reins.

In the end, being a free spirit isn’t about being reckless; it’s about being fearless. It’s about embracing the unknown and trusting that no matter what happens, you’ll find your way. So, while everyone else is busy trying to keep their lives perfectly in order, I’ll be over here. I’ll be dancing to my own beat. I’ll be loving every wild, unpredictable second of it.
