It’s time for that day light savings BS; you know when that annual custody battle between winter and summer begins. Two seasons, each desperately vying for the spotlight like they’re auditioning for the role of Most Annoying Time of Year. And honestly, it’s hard to choose a favorite when both have perfected their art of being simultaneously obnoxious and delightful.
Let’s start with winter. It rolls in like an overzealous guest at a party. It brings snow, ice, and a delightful chill. This chill makes you question every decision you’ve ever made about leaving the house. Sure, it’s magical at first. Snowflakes! Cozy sweaters! Hot cocoa that instantly melts the soul. But then it just drags on. There are slippery sidewalks. The wind chill is so cold it feels like it’s actively punishing you. Let’s not forget the sun setting at 4:30 p.m. because who doesn’t love the idea of being trapped in perpetual darkness?
Winter’s argument: “Hey, at least I’m better than dealing with sunburns, right?”
Now, enter summer—like that friend who shows up uninvited and insists on being the center of attention. Sunshine, beach days, barbecues, and a level of heat that can only be described as uncomfortably relentless. Sure, you can’t escape the sweat dripping down your back. Also, mosquitoes use you as their personal buffet. But at least it’s warm enough to pretend you’re having fun. Oh, and don’t forget the endless barrage of activities. Nothing says relaxation like a jam-packed calendar of backyard parties.
Summer’s defense: “Yeah, I’m hot, but at least you can wear flip-flops and pretend you’re on vacation.”
So, who wins this custody battle? Honestly, it’s a toss-up. Winter is great for hibernating, but only if you enjoy freezing every time you step outside. Summer, on the other hand, is just a sweaty reminder that being outside is overrated. Maybe we should let them both share custody. After all, nothing says “balance” like being mildly uncomfortable year-round.
Cheers to whatever choice you make, and regardless of your season, Lip balm: because nobody wants to kiss a cactus.
