There I was, standing in front of a barbell that looked like it had no business being in my hands. My brain? Panicking. My self-doubt? Screaming. My inner monologue? Something along the lines of “You’re not strong enough,” “This is how you die,” and “Shouldn’t we just go stretch and emotionally spiral instead?”
But then she said it — with that “I see you, now act like it” tone women have mastered:
“You can lift that. I’ve seen you. Now shut up and do it.”
And just like that, the doubting, overly dramatic peanut gallery in my head got drowned out by something louder: belief. Hers.
Women who hype you are stronger than Pre-Workout. You ever notice how when a woman tells you you’ve got this, you suddenly do? Not because your muscles grew in the last 30 seconds, but because her belief in you hits harder than a double shot of espresso and childhood trauma.
She didn’t care that I looked unsure. She didn’t analyze my form like a spreadsheet. She knew I could, even when I was busy composing a mental TED Talk about why I couldn’t.
Spoiler alert: I lifted the damn thing. Was it perfect? No. Did I suddenly become a fitness influencer with abs that cast shadows? Also no. What I did do was lift the weight and silenced the doubt.
But I proved something bigger: Just because your brain is being loud doesn’t mean it’s being right. And sometimes, all it takes is one fierce woman to shout louder than your fear.
So, the next time your inner voice starts whining about what you can’t do, borrow hers. The one who tells you to go for it. The one who sees your strength when all you feel is self-doubt in activewear.
Trust me — she’s never wrong.
